The Red Pepper Deli has been steadily gaining popularity since it opened its doors in September 2008. This Northville, MI raw food restaurant is a part of a new line of restaurant that focuses on organic, vegan and raw menu items. “All organic, all the time,” is their motto.
The menu is relatively small, but there are some interesting choices. They offer topics, smoothies and shakes, liver and kidney tonics, wheatgrass, salads, sandwiches and sides.
Popular sandwich choices include:
- Raw Tacos with romaine, walnut meat, tomato salsa and spouts.
- The Redwhich made with cashew cheese, mixed greens, zucchini, red pepper and spouts.

At just $7 per sandwich, they are comparable in price to their meaty counterparts found at most delis. The Red Pepper Deli is far from your typical deli. You won’t find sandwiches stacked a mile high with sliced meats. What you will find might surprise you. The sandwiches are fresh, light, tasty and healthy.
Other items of interest are the raw lasagna, raw pizza, jicama fries and no bean hummus. They also carry hot vegan soup.
The restaurant is a brightly lit, lively place that sits on . The floor, walls and tables are colorful. The atmosphere is refreshing and airy. Photos of fresh vegetables accent the walls. The vibe of this deli goes along with the food theme, clean and fresh.

Carolyn Simon is the owner of the Red Pepper Deli. She created the menu items using a little creativity. Raw foods are dehydrated, chopped, blended, soaked and juiced. She is also quick to point out the benefits of eating a mostly raw food diet, which is high in fiber, improves digestion, increases energy and helps with weight loss. Eating foods that are not heated over 116 degrees is said to be healthier and decrease the risk of heart disease.
One thing vegan customers need to watch is the use of honey at the Red Pepper Deli. Ask about the ingredients before you order if you are unsure.
Not only does the Red Pepper Deli offer smart food choices, but they also use recyclable to-go containers, which appeals to the environmentally conscious customers. This makes it the perfect place to dine in or carry out.
